RECIPE: Organic Hemp & Green Juice

RECIPE: Organic Hemp & Green Juice

We’ve been doing really well about drinking at least one green beverage a day – whether in smoothie form or juice. Today, I’m sharing one of my latest favorite juice combos! Lately, Willow requests green juice, but since she likes hers on the sweeter side, I added some Granny Smith apples to cut back on the earthy, green flavor. This recipe, in particular, was inspired by Julie Morris’ Spinach Hemp juice recipe from her Superfood Juices book. A definite favorite of ours from that book and the addition of hemp seeds to juice is genius. It provides a creamy texture while adding a generous amount of protein!

On a side note….

Over the last few months, Willow has been getting really good at taking photos – she insists on taking photos of some of her creations (drawings, Lego masterpieces and food). We have a little digital camera that she’s claimed as her own and can be found snapping photos all over the place. Below I’m sharing a few of my recent favorites:

Now, back to the recipe!

CREAMY HEMP & GREEN JUICE {raw, organic, vegan, nut-free}

Makes 4 cups of juice

What You Need:

  • 3 large organic collard leaves
  • 3 organic celery stalks
  • 2 large organic Granny Smith apples
  • 1 organic lemon, peeled
  • 1/4 cup raw, organic hemp seeds

RECIPE: Organic Hemp & Green Juice

How To:

  1. Wash and chop your fruit and veggies into pieces that will fit into your juicer.
  2. Juice the fruit and veggies – then transfer to your high-speed blender.
  3. Add the hemp seeds and blend on high until creamy and smooth*
  4. Pour into glasses and enjoy!

*For an even bigger nutrient boost, blend in 1/4-1/2 teaspoon raw spirulina powder.

This is best consumed right away, but any leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for the day. If you don’t have a juicer, you can put all of the produce (chopped into small pieces, lemon seeds removed) into your blender, blend until smooth (adding a little filtered water if needed) and strain through either a nut milk bag or cheese cloth. Then add the hemp seeds and blend again.

Another variation of this juice that we’ve enjoyed is to use only one celery stalk and add one large cucumber (taste it first and peel if the skin tastes bitter).

I still have not made my own green juice, but when I do, I hope it looks as good as this!

Awww! Thank you! We’ve made some pretty horrid looking green juice before! But taste is all that matters, right? 😉 I was so excited about how pretty this one turned out…those hemp seeds really brightened it up! ❤

Adding hemp seeds to green juice is a great idea! I never say no to extra creaminess, and it looks and sounds so bright and easy! I am really wishing I had a juicer, I would be making this right now. Maybe I’ll try the blend and strain technique, with the apple in there it could work. I love Willow’s juice photo, I need an elephant cup like that too it’s so fun 🙂 And her kitty pic is perfect. She is so naturally creative, I love that you nurture it and let her try out so many different things ❤

Right?!? The creaminess factor with this juice was amazing! And pre hemp seeds, this juice was super dark green and kind of scary looking! Ha! The hemp seeds made it so bright, almost neon.I edited the note about juicing without a juicer (just make sure to chop the produce really small and add water if the blender isn’t moving much). The lemon will help a lot, too! Awww, thank you! It’s been so much fun watching what gets her excited and all that she’s interested in…it’s the little things ❤

I love Willow’s pictures, so sweet! We love green juice too, but we always put in some fruit because we like our on the sweeter side as well.

Thank you! She really loves photography, it’s adorable to see her running all over the house with the camera snapping photos – half of them are of herself, but she’s recently been into taking pics of food and objects, too! Oh, I’m a sucker for the sweeter juices with apples and oranges! It’s only been within the last few months that we’ve been doing earthy green juices – the hemp seeds add a wonderful creaminess to them!

Looks beautiful. I’ve been really digging hemp lately. Actually I have a most delicious hemp recipe I’m saving for tomorrow or day after on the blog… 🙂 But the juice sounds nice! I like adding it to smoothies sometimes too. Most of all though, I’m loving Willow’s photos — that dice pic… she has a great eye! That juice one was really funny though ❤

Ooooooohhh! I can’t wait! We LOVE hemp seeds so much and I find myself sprinkling them in and on just about everything. Such a versatile seed. haha!! Isn’t she funny?! It’s great because I’ll go to upload photos from the camera and there’s a whole bunch of Willow pics that I didn’t even know she took. The dice pic is my favorite! Thanks, friend!! xo
